Sushila was married off early to an alcoholic husband. Juggling the responsibility of four children single handedly, she worked as an agricultural labourer, enduring the physical toll of long hours under the harsh sun, struggling with irregular payments. When news of the Sakhi spices unit opening near her home reached her, Sushila swiftly seized the opportunity for a better life. Since joining the unit, she has achieved financial stability, striking a balance between work and her domestic responsibilities. With a steadfast determination to provide a brighter future for her children, Sunita supports all of their education, hoping they will have a life of less hardship. Despite her struggles, she wears a constant smile and maintains a positive outlook towards life.
“Working at the unit has helped me gain confidence. I saved up enough to build extra rooms in my house and do renovation work. I am also able to support my children’s education. I want my girls to study and become strong independent women so that they don’t have to struggle the way I did.”
